Conferences

For several thousand years, Tromsø has been a meeting place for people from different cultures. Traders from near and far moved here after Tromsø was granted city status in 1794 and, more than two centuries later, Tromsø remains a popular meeting place. Tromsø is a leading, modern city easily accessible by air, car, bus or boat. Tromsø has a reputation as a pulsating little big city – round the clock, throughout the year, exotic, intimate, colourful, full of experiences and full of Northern Norwegian charm.

Over the past decade, Tromsø has positioned itself as a host city for large national and international conferences, and a host of companies and organisations have chosen to hold their national courses or conferences here. The number of delegates has ranged from two to 1700, and a variety of large conferences are already booked for the years ahead.

In spite of its relatively modern size, Tromsø can offer first-class facilities and possibilities for both the business and social aspects of the conference! Here, just far enough away from the rest of the world, you will find practical and well equipped meeting venues at your disposal, accommodation and dining options to suit every taste and the surroundings both indoors and out are wide ranging and exotic. We can also offer a wide range of options for exciting trips or excursions before or after the business aspects of your programme with Tromsø as your starting point. For organisers of international courses and conferences, an important consideration is Tromsø’s location in such a peaceful part of the world.

It is almost impossible to organise a congress in Tromsø without the delegates having the chance to experience Tromsø’s magnificent surroundings. You can always find the time for activities. If you extend your stay in Tromsø with a short holiday before or after the congress, or hold a lunch or dinner outside the hotel combined with activities, it will be more than just a traditional run-of-the-mill conference.

An activity in either its purest form or combined with one of the event’s official meals means that your delegates will remember Tromsø long after they have forgotten the actual conference. Most people will remember dinners like a reindeer calf grilled on the beach at Sommarøy or a traditional Saami meal at Ramfjord followed by lasso throwing. Maybe one option that appeals is taking the cable car up to the restaurant 420m above sea level and enjoying an aperitif while savouring the wonderful view of Tromsø and its surrounds – and perhaps also a glimpse of the Northern Lights during the fantastic Polar Nights or the Midnight Sun during the bright nights of summer? What about a fishing trip on the fiord? The crew guarantee a catch and they will gladly prepare the fresh cod you caught and serve it onboard.
