Foreign exchange and travellers’ cheques

Tromsø is far from a mass tourism destination, hence there are no private bureaux de changes. The only option is therefore to change money in the bank. Changing money inside the bank is considerably more expensive than using ATMs. The use of international credit cards is widespread in shops and restaurants, and all transactions take place right in front of you. It is therefore very safe. Avoid paying in foreign currency, notably euros, pounds and dollars, in shops and restaurants, as this is invariably expensive.

Local fish licenses can be purchased in local stores and from private individuals near the lake or stream in question. For other kinds of freshwater fish, only the local fish license is necessary.
